Assigning: .IT domain names are reserved for individuals or organizations that have a registered address in the European Union
Syntax: From 3 to 63 alphanumeric characters or a hyphen (excluding in the first and last place)
IDN: No
Registration period: 1 year, renewable
Subdomains available: No

Procedures

Creation: During the purchase of a .it domain name we send you a link to a PDF document (Letter of Assumption and Responsibility (LAR)) that you need to download, sign and then mail or Fax directly to the registry within 14 days of your order. Your domain will not be registered before the validation and reception of this document by the registry (about 5 days after mailing it). In addition, the DNS (A, MX, CNAME) of the domain name must be correctly configured so that it passes the zonecheck of the registry.
Renewal: The renewal for one year of a .IT domain name extends the registration period of the domain for another year.

Change of owner: The ownership change procedure (for a fee) is not available online. Please contact our customer care department.
Change of registrar: You must start a transfer request on Gandi's website by entering exactly the same owner information that currently exist for the domain. We will then send a link with a document to be downloaded, filled out, and sent to the registry. The transfer will then take place within 10 days of the reception of your document by the registry.
