Registering a domain name

The art of selecting a domain name is based around the fact that most of the common words have already been registered. The difficulty resides therefore in choosing a name that fits its intended purpose (is descriptive), is short, and that is easy to remember.

Begin by selecting a domain name that you like, and enter the domain name in the registration box, and check the box of the TLD (extension) that you want in the registration section.

For the greatest chance of success, it is a good idea to click on "All":

After you click "Search" you will either see a page that says "No domain name(s) available ?", or will have a list of all available domains for the name you requested.

As you can see in the image below, the desired name, ganditutorial is available for registration in all the TLDs handled by Gandi. For the sake of demonstration, we will register the .net and the .com TLDs by checking the appropriate boxes to the left of the domains.

After you have selected the domain names you want to register, and the number of years that you want to register them for, click on"Continue with my order", which will take you to the identification page.

CAUTION: Only residents of the European Union can register a .eu domain, and only residents in France can register a .fr domain.
