You may be aware that we recently celebrated a day of some significance to Mexican history. Of course, we’re talking about Cinco de Mayo, the birthday of the last Mexican governor of California, Pío Pico, born May 5, 1801.*

If only Pío Pico had also been in some way instrumental in the post office, then we would have a perfect deal for him: all the rest of this month from May 9 through May 31, 2016, .mx domains the official TLD of Mexico (but also the technical abbreviation for “mailbox”) will be available for half-price. That’s $24.00 per year instead of the usual $48.00 per year at A rates.

* What's all this about the Battle of Puebla?

Cinco de Mayo, the day we all know as when the Mexicans defeated the French, is just around the corner and all month this April, .mx domains, the country TLD for Mexico, is on sale for $16.00 per year. That’s a third off the normal price of $48.00,  from April 1 through 30 (at 5:00 PM PDT), so don’t delay.

It’s a topsy-turvy economic world and while we wish exchange rates would just stay the same forever (economic consequences of that aside), unfortunately that’s not the case.

Since Gandi does have to pay registries generally in the currency of the country they are located in, exchange rates are a factor in the pricing of our domains in any particular currency.

And due to recent fluctuations in currency exchange rates, we’ve had to make some adjustments to some of the rates of our TLDs. We wanted to let you know so you wouldn’t be surprised.

The good news is, most of the affected TLDs haven’t had any rate changes in the past three years.

In any case, starting 1 March 2016, most extensions registered by Centralnic will experience a price increase of 10% on prices IN EUROS (EUR) ONLY on all rate scales for all operations. The TLDs affected are the following:

.ae.org, .ar.com, .br.com, .cn.com, .eu.com, .gb.com, .hu.com, .jp.net, .jpn.com, .kr.com, .la, .no.com, .qc.com, .ru.com, .sa.com, .se.com, .uk.com, .uk.net, .us.com, .za.com

Also on 1 March, .co, .hn, .ht, .je, .ms, .sx, .vc, .im, .tl, and .tc will be going up as well, also by 10% and on all operations and rate scales. This increase applies to EUROS (EUR) but also to TAIWAN DOLLARS (TWD) as well.

Again on 1 March, .bank, .auto, .cars, .car, .luxury, and .ceo will be increasing by 5% on all operations at all rates in EUROS (EUR) and TAIWAN DOLLARS (TWD) ONLY.

On 1 March, 2016, prices on .gg will increase by 5% on all operations at all rates in EUROS (EUR) ONLY.

And finally, 1 March, 2016, rates for .gy, .mx, .sc and .travel will be increasing by 5% on all operations at all price scales in EUROS (EUR) and TAIWAN DOLLARS (TWD) ONLY.

The national extension of Mexico, .MX, will be hanlf price throughout the month of September at Gandi.net!

Useful for sites having to do with Mexico or email servers (MX = mail server in Internetspeak), .MX domains will cost just $24.00 to create until September 30, 2015 instead of the usual $48.00, at A rates. That gives us a genius idea. A taco truck where you email or text them your order and then pick it up in five minutes. Call it TXT MX. Now if only the domain txt.mx were available ...
