It's finally time for the beautiful Alpine country of Switzerland to have it's (new) own TLD, .swiss, enter the GoLive phase (pairs great with the old stalwart .ch TLD).

You should remember to check the rules page here before registering though: registration of .swiss domains heavily favors the Swiss.

And now that we offer payment in Swiss Francs, we can proudly display the price for a one-year domain name creation as CHF 130.67 (or if you prefer USD, $142.55).

It's a great time for Swiss Gandi customers. Not only is the .swiss extension currently in the Sunrise phase (other phases forthcoming) but now for our European customers, Gandi is now accepting payment in Swiss Francs (CHF).

So for your next .swiss or .ch order (or any other order, really), you can select CHF as the currency.

If you already have a prepaid account with Gandi, you'll need to deplete the funds in that account before being able to add CHF value to it.

"Like the fella says," quipped Orson Welles as Harry Lime in an ad-libbed line in 1949's The Third Man, "in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

And we couldn't disagree with him more. The popular image of Switzerland is a country of chocolates, holey cheese, and lonely goatherds, but consider that Dada was born in Switzerland in the early 20th century (after so many years of at least official neutrality), as was Paul Klee and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Not an unimpressive roster of cultural credentials, and we think it shows the Swiss are far more versatile than their reputation suggests (and the cuckoo clock was invented in Germany).

Which is why we're happy to announce that .swiss is entering the Sunrise phase. During this phase, domains will be availalbe to TMCH registration holders for $160.55 per year. We feel that this TLD can be just as versatile. Dare we say, like a Swiss Army knife?
