If you have followed recent financial news, you have certainly noticed the historic high of the US Dollar versus the Euro.

The direct implication of this high for a European company that purchases goods in US Dollars is that there is an increase in costs. The consequence of this is that we are losing money in certain price rates.

And as our business model is to not use domains as a loss leader to push other products, we must revise our prices on the extensions in question in order to be able to continue to bring you the best possible quality of service.

Despite this, we will continue to allow you to benefit from the promotions that have been negotiated with the registries, notably with a major operation coming soon, and if the Euro/Dollar trend turns around and stabilises, we will readjust our prices downward.

Here is, in alphabetical order, the 39 extensions (out of 562) impacted by this increase, with the amount of the increase noted next to it:

Two more new gTLDs are entering the GoLive phase: .casa and .work.  We invite you to make yourself at home with .casa.  As they say, mi .casa es su .casa.  Or if you're feeling more like being productive, feel free to get to .work with the new .work gTLD.

The list is below, accompanied by the corresponding GoLive prices of a one-year registration, all at A rates:

Three more new gTLDs are entering the GoLive phase: .eus, .ltda, and .soy.

The first of these, .eus, is the official Basque-language extension. The .ltda extension is a new TLD intended for companies in Latin America (for now Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Colombia) operating as a Sociedad or Compañía de Responsabilidad Limitada or as a Sociedade Limitada who can provide their business license number. Finally, .soy, for Vegans, East Asian cuisine and existential questions in Spanish, is also entering the GoLive phase.

By 9:00 AM PST on that same day, .tires will enter GoLive.

This new gTLD makes us wish we had a barker on the boardwalk shouting "Domains For Sale!" If you feel the same, then step right up because .forsale will be for sale in the GoLive phase as of Wednesday January 21 at 9:00 AM PST.

These domains will be offered at $38.34 per year at A rates.

This may come as a surprise, but we're pretty nerdy around here, so it makes sense that .io is one of our favorite TLDs.

It seems that you, our customers, feel the same way. Thanks to your undying nerdery, we've always been able to offer extremely competitive prices on .io domains.

Today, we're pleased to announce that we're dropping prices on .io! Previously, one-year registrations and renewals were $39 (at A rates). Starting today, the new prices will be:

  • Registration: $35.00
  • Renewal: $35.00

Note: This change will only be applied to USD, not EUR or GBP, due to currency fluctuations in favor of the US dollar.

The first written reference to the Easter Bunny was in Georg Fanck von Franckenau's 1682 De vois paschalibus referring to an Alsatian legend of a hare delivering eggs for Easter and perhaps it was a domain bunny who dropped .alsace into our basket.

As with most geographic gTLDs, .alsace has its own registration requirements, most notably when it comes to the owner of the domain, though for .alsace these requirements are not as strict as for others.

To register a .alsace, you need to either live in Alsace (Haut-Rhin or Bas-Rhin departments) OR participate in some personal, professional, commercial or cultural activity in Alsace OR have a direct or indirect link to Alsace (economic, social, historical or other).

Unlike most new gTLDs, .alsace has 5 distinct phases instead of just three, and with the exception of the Golive phase, all of them run concurrently from January 19 until March 20, 2015.

Here are the phases in order of priority:

  •  Sunrise: reserved for those who have a trademark registered with TMCH (and a corresponding SMD file). Price: $405.01.
  • Landrush Priority 1 (LRP1): reserved for those who have an INPI, an OHMI or a WIPO trademark. Price: $132.03.
  • Landrush Priority 2 (LRP2): reserved for companies with their primary or secondary offices located in the Haut-Rhin or Bas-Rhin departments. Price: $132.03.
  • Landrush: reserved for anyone who can satisfy the eligibility criteria or who qualifies for any of the three above phases. Price: $132.03.

Our system doesn't distinguish between LRP1 and LRP2 or just a Landrush. Since these are all rolling out at the same time and will be invoiced for the same price, you should select Landrush for any of the three Landrush phases. You will nonetheless be asked to provide verification of your elibility and upon receipt of this verification you will be assigned to the appropriate phase.

GoLive:

The .alsace extension becomes generally available, for all who meet the requirements, on April 7 at 6:00 AM PST at a price of $66.16.

All above-listed prices are at A rates.
