Go to the new Gandi

Starting today, April 21, 2016 at 7:00 AM PDT, .tube becomes available at Gandi in the Sunrise phase. Domains in this extension will be available for $160.60 per year for companies registered with TMCH.

Obviously, this is a good TLD for video services, but consider buying two, three or more. You could have a whole series of .tubes to fill up, presumably with the proverbial "enormous amounts of material."

There won’t be a Landrush phase for this TLD, so if you don’t have a TMCH registration you’ll have to wait until July 7 at 7:00 AM PDT at the earliest for your registration in the GoLive phase to be submitted. Registrations in the GoLive phase will go for $38.35 per year at A rates.

What if we told you you could have a .cat for just $6.50 per year on one condition: since .cat is officially for the Spanish region of Catalonia, you have to publish a site on it in Catalan within six months of registering it. How could you say no?

It’s the Internet’s favorite pet in TLD form, and with a domain at Gandi, you can create a one-page site for free. Just throw some of your favorite lolcatz into the online translator of your choice and voila, requirement met.

Think of it like grooming your .cat.

But act quickly, this promo only lasts from April 18, 2016 until May 2, 2016 at 4:59 PM PDT.

Do you hear that? Your .cat is purring already.

If you have any doubts that we like having promos, just check out our Promos tag in our newsfeed. And if you love promos as much as we do, now’s your chance to snag a .promo domain name. We’re accepting registrations for all phases, but as .promo is still in the Sunrise phase on a first-come-first-served basis, from now until May 16, 2016 at $151.33 per year.

You can also pre-register in the Landrush phase, which will go from May 20 at 9:00 AM PDT until May 21, 2016 at 4:59 PM PDT. Domains purchased in the Landrush phase will go for $302.58 per year.

Finally, on May 23, 2016 at 9:00 AM PDT, .promo will enter the GoLive phase. Registrations during this phase (or pre-registrations for this phase beforehand) will be at $19.40 per year at A rates (and that's not even a promo price).

Every year since 1970, April 22 has been Earth Day. This year, the landmark Paris Agreement will be signed by the United States, China and other countries.

Earth Day by itself is worth celebrating. But signing this agreement, countries are committing to hold the increase in global temperature below 2°C, committing signatory nations to ambitious progressive contributions to the effort through greenhouse gas reduction and mitigation actions.

It’s not a perfect solution to the problem, but it’s a good start and a historic move and we think that’s worth celebrating doubly this Earth Day. In that spirit, from April 15 through May 31 (at 23:59 UTC or 4:59 PM PDT), .earth domains will be available at half-price: that’s $15.56 instead of $31.15 per year at A rates.

This past month, we created a visual of things you can do with a domain name covering not only what you might want to do with a domain name being under-utilized but also reasons why you might want to buy a domain in the first place.

Of course, one reason you might want to get a domain name is for your business. Even if you’re not doing any actual sales online, having a site for your business makes it official.

And starting today, you can make it official with a .ltd or .gmbh (GmbH is the German equivalent of "Ltd") domain name. These extensions are entering the Sunrise phase, which will last until June 11, 2016.

During this phase, .ltd and .gmbh domains will be available to those registered with TMCH for $144.33 per year for a .ltd and $151.38 per year for a .gmbh. This phase is especially important for these TLDs since each is geared towards companies.

There will also be a Landrush phase from June 19 through June 22, 2016 in which .ltd domains will be available for $164.49 per year while .gmbh will be available for $171.54 per year.

Finally on June 22 at 9:00 AM PDT these two extensions will enter the GoLive phase when they will be available under the registration conditions for these TLDs to anyone regardless of TMCH registration status for $25.24 per year at A rates for a .ltd and $38.65 for a .gmbh.

A store can be many things: hangout spot, a weekend job, a side-business, or a way of life. Or maybe you just want a place to store a few things. In any case, a .store domain can be any and all of these things for you now that this extension is entering the Sunrise phase on April 6, 2016 at 9:00 AM PDT.

You can get a .store domain if you have a TMCH registration during this phase until June 5, 2016 for $846.90 first year. Then, between June 12 and June 14, 2016, .store enters the Landrush phase, when it will be available for $342.90 for first year before .store finally enters the GoLive phase on June 14, 2016 at 9:00 AM PDT, at which point the normal price becomes $76.95 per year at A rates.

BUT, luckily for you, you are in .store for a price of just $14.99 per year until August 14, 2016. That means that you can pre-register a .store domain right now and take advantage of this deal, or register normally after the GoLive phase starts up until August 14.

What's in .store for your future?

A lot of big cities eventually start to just get called “the city,” after awhile. In the Bay Area, the City is San Francisco (Oakland is still the Town), on the East Coast, it often means New York. And in Turkey, it means none other than Istanbul. But Istanbul is unique in that people have called it “The City” for so long now that it’s name literally means “The City,” in Greek (the original Golden Gate was also in Istanbul).

Of course, it was Constantinople and Byzantium before (but that’s nobody’s business but the Turks). It’s been the capital of empires and religions, and now it has its very own TLD. Well, two—.istanbul and .ist:—both of which are now available in the Landrush phase at Gandi.

During this phase, you can buy a .istanbul or a .ist domain for just $151.38 per year. Or you could wait until the GoLive phase starts on May 10, 2016 and get them for $23.33 per year (at A rates).

And .ist isn’t just great for lovers of Istanbul's iconic architecture, luxurious gardens and many bridges, but also to adherents of any kind of -ism (Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Year in 2015).

Mother’s Day is May 8 this year. What are you getting your mom? Is it a domain name? How about a whole lovely bouquet of domain names?

You might be interested to know that .mom is entering the GoLive phase soon. Previously, we said that was going to happen April 26, but the date has changed and is now May 3, 2016 at 9:00 AM PDT: the Tuesday before Mother’s Day. The regular price for .mom domain names once it enters the GoLive phase will be $48.22 at A rates.

And just to sweeten the deal, because we know you love your mothers very much, until May 6, 2016, you’ll be able to get a .mom domain for just $1.00 per year. Even better, this also means that if you pre-reserve in the GoLive phase now, you can pay the $1.00 price.

What are you getting for your .mom?

Some 29% of English words have a French origin. Sometimes these are words for specific concepts like laissez-faire or déjà vu, but it’s also a lot of words that have a more boring-sounding English way to say them but have that certain je ne sais quoi in French.

You could have a fun night out, but make it a soirée and it’s just that much more sophisticated. Or maybe you’re bored? Call it ennui and turn it into a philosophical condition.

From April 1 through June 30, 2016 we have a few extensions like this on sale for just $10.00 a piece (per year) that give your domains the same allure.

For example, don’t just open a store, make it a .boutique (normally $32.49 at A rates). A trip becomes that much more epic when you make it a .voyage (which goes for $52.65 at A rates). And maybe you knew .maison is French for house?

We should also mention a couple that maybe haven’t quite crossed over into English yet: .immo and .sarl (usually $38.34 each) that are both on sale. The former is for the real estate industry and the later is the equivalent of “LLC” in a company name.
