We're checking in on #gandiv5 and how it's coming along after launching our new platform last December and looking forward to what's still to come
Get your .art before it enters the GoLive phase on Wednesday.
Beta release of the first viable version of our new platform.
What's the difference between a cam and a camera anyway? They both take photos and videos, but a cam is enhanced by the internet.
Sure, on the one hand, that means selfies and doggy daycare cams. And who doesn't love selfies and doggy cams?
But also with a webcam, families separated by continents and oceans can talk face-to-face, news can be streamed live online as it happens, someone unable to speak can relay a message to someone else unable to see or read signs. Or a window can be opened from your desktop to another place.
There's nothing wrong with photos, but with the power of the web, a camera becomes so much more powerful (just remember to cover yours up when you're not using it).
That power is also behind the new TLD .cam.
On Wednesday, December 14, .cam will be entering the GoLive phase. That means .cam domains will be open to everyone, first come, first served, for $40.25 per year at A rates*.
If you've got a vision to share, get your .cam now.

Traditionally, the grand opening of a new shop involves a big red banner, one of those flailing-arm tube guys, and a good old-fashioned opening day sale.
Well, one unfortunate casualty of online commerce is the ribbon and the flailing arm guy just don't have the same impact. But you don't need a brick-and-mortar to do an opening day sale. So when .shop enters the GoLive phase on September 26, 2016 at 8:00 AM PDT, you can get a domain in this extension for just $25.00* for the first year at A rates. Normally, .shop domains will go for $45.95* in A rates, so that's more than 45% off.
Even though .shop is currently in the Sunrise phase (.shop domains go for $1050.74* per year apiece in Sunrise), you can still submit your registration for a .shop domain in the GoLive phase now and once the GoLive phase begins, we'll send the order to the registry. That's the upside of not having a physical shop where you can buy your .shop: getting in line early doesn't mean camping out overnight on the sidewalk.
This promotion is good for any .shop registrations submitted for GoLive from now until December 31, 2016 at 4:00 PM PST (or midnight UTC). So come on down to Gandi for the .shop opening day sale.
Stop drop and .shop?
*Prices in USD. See the .shop pricing page for local prices.
WordPress is the most popular content management system in the world. Free to copy and free from charge, easy to install and to use, it continues to grow in popularity and spread the good word about open source software since 2003. Today, it’s estimated that 30% of all websites use WordPress.
With a PHP/MySQL instance, Gandi users have long been able to quickly install and run WordPress for themselves but we recently asked ourselves how we could make this process even simpler.
It couldn’t be simpler than our answer: one-click installation on the new PHP 5.6 and PHP 7 instances with MySQL 5.6 (Percona), and PHP 5.6 with MySQL 5.5.
Here’s how it works. First, navigate to your instance’s control panel and access the WordPress installation feature. You can install WordPress on any of your vhosts (that is, the web addresses listed on that page). You don’t have to worry about creating a database anymore: it will be automatically created during the installation process. You’ll just have to enter the username, password and email address for your WordPress site’s admin account.
Why tell you, though, when we can show you?
You can install as many WordPress sites on an instance as you want or redirect additional domain names to an already existing WordPress site; you just need to return to the admin page to add a new Website to your instance.
The only limitation is, of course, the resources allotted to your instance based on its size, which you can modify as needed.
One of our favorite things about WordPress is that it’s a great tool for those who may not already be crack coders who nonetheless want a truly customized blog. So we’re happy to help facilitate newcomers who may be intimidated by the manual installation process.
WordPress is also robust enough to be preferred by a large swath of the professional development community as well who find the manual process tedious. This allows such users to save time.
If you want more information on the automatic installation process or if you’re curious to know how the manual process works, check out our WordPress tutorial, available in our wiki.
We try to make sure when we roll out a new feature that everything works correctly and smoothly, but of course, we’re not immune to bugs. So if you see something, say something, and we’ll fix it. Or if you have any additional feedback on how to make things easier or how to improve this feature, feel free to send us an email with your thoughts and impressions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
And of course if you run into any difficulties you can also contact our Customer care team for help.
We’re excited and proud for this new feature to roll out but by no means is this the last WordPress-related improvement we have in store. Stay tuned for more …
The spirits (well, mostly just the TLD release calendar) predict many good things coming your way, dear Gandiens, many things.
So what’s in store this month? Well, .store for one, is entering the GoLive phase on June 14, 2016 at 9:00 AM PDT.
But wait, there’s more in store for .store! From now until August 14, 2016 at 4:59 PM PDT, .store domains will be on sale for just $14.99 per year when you buy it in the GoLive phase. Normally, the GoLive price for .store will be $76.95 per year, so that’s 80% off, right off the bat.
With a promo that good, we predict that you will find the .store of your dreams this summer.
Find out if there's a .store in store for your future?
Every year since 1970, April 22 has been Earth Day. This year, the landmark Paris Agreement will be signed by the United States, China and other countries.
Earth Day by itself is worth celebrating. But signing this agreement, countries are committing to hold the increase in global temperature below 2°C, committing signatory nations to ambitious progressive contributions to the effort through greenhouse gas reduction and mitigation actions.
It’s not a perfect solution to the problem, but it’s a good start and a historic move and we think that’s worth celebrating doubly this Earth Day. In that spirit, from April 15 through May 31 (at 23:59 UTC or 4:59 PM PDT), .earth domains will be available at half-price: that’s $15.56 instead of $31.15 per year at A rates.
Save your .earth?
With every new gTLD that pops up it’s like a whole new frontier on the Internet has opened up. And there’s no wider opener space than .space itself.
There’s .space to move, .space to breath, .space to think, or even .space for your stuffed koala collection.
And now for a limited time, from March 15, 2016 until April 14, 2016 at 4:59 PM PDT, you .space is just $1.99 per year.
There’s a beast inside us all that goes by the name “Ego,” and it’s a hungry beast. Some say it’s best to starve the poor creature but we think it’s perfectly okay to throw it a little scrap now and then. Use that shop window as a mirror to see how good you look. Take a selfie. Google yourself. Plant a recording device in your office so you know what your coworkers are saying about you behind your back.
And, from March 1 through March 14, 2016 at 11:59 PM UTC, you can nourish that hungry animal inside you with a .me domain for only $4.00 per year (normally $14.40 per year at A rates). Because you’re worth it.
