Five-hundred years of democracy and peace produced .swiss

“Like the fella says,” quipped Orson Welles as Harry Lime in an ad-libbed line in 1949’s The Third Man, “in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love – they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.”

And we couldn’t disagree with him more. The popular image of Switzerland is a country of chocolates, holey cheese, and lonely goatherds, but consider that Dada was born in Switzerland in the early 20th century (after so many years of at least official neutrality), as was Paul Klee and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Not an unimpressive roster of cultural credentials, and we think it shows the Swiss are far more versatile than their reputation suggests (and the cuckoo clock was invented in Germany).

Which is why we’re happy to announce that .swiss is entering the Sunrise phase. During this phase, domains will be availalbe to TMCH registration holders for $160.55 per year. We feel that this TLD can be just as versatile. Dare we say, like a Swiss Army knife?
